Many parents wonder whether their child's needs may require more support than a school can normally provide.

This tool cannot determine eligibility for an Education, Health and Care Plan. However, it can help you reflect on common situations where families begin exploring an EHCP assessment.

1. Is your child significantly behind expected progress for their age?
2. Have teachers expressed concern about your child's learning or development?
3. Has SEN Support already been put in place?
4. Do your child's needs affect daily school life?
5. Does your child struggle with communication or interaction?
6. Are emotional wellbeing or anxiety affecting school life?
7. Has behaviour become challenging because of underlying needs?
8. Has attendance been affected by difficulties at school?
9. Are professionals involved (for example speech therapy, occupational therapy, or psychology)?
10. Do you feel ordinary school support may no longer be enough?
